Cyclist taken to hospital after becoming unwell on Borders road

A BORDERS road was blocked this afternoon (Wednesday May 4 2022) after a male cyclist was taken unwell.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A698 near Bonjedward around 1.30pm.

The man was taken to Borders General Hospital.

His condition is not known at this time.

The incident caused some disruption to traffic with vehicles diverted along single track roads to avoid the scene.

The SBC Bus service number 20 which was due to arrive in Jedburgh at 1.45pm from Kelso had to be cancelled which meant that the return journey could not take place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a male cyclist taken unwell on the A698 near Bonjedward around 1.30pm on Wednesday, 4 May.

“Emergency services attended and the man has been taken to Borders General Hospital.”
