Newtown St Boswells woman brandished knife at police officers

A BORDERS woman who brandished a knife at police officers has been placed on supervision for the next 18 months.

Fifty-one-year-old Amanda Stewart, of Newtown St Boswells, locked herself in the toilet of her home on the evening of May 20 and when officers were called to the scene she brandished the knife and refused to drop it when told.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told officers had to deploy.

Fiscal Alasdair Fay said: “They formed a view this was a person in crisis. She was taken to Hawick Police Station and then to Borders General Hospital due to concerns for her wellbeing.”

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had not used alcohol since the incident in May.

Sheriff Kenneth Maciver imposed a Community Pay Back order for 18 months with mental health and alcohol supervision.
