The Plough Inn, in Lilliesleaf, raised £330 for Lilliesleaf PS through its annual Hangover Games Pool Tournament on New Year’s Day.
“It’s just a bit of fun”, said Diane Black, owner of the Plough Inn. “People come in and they know it’s for tangible charities, ones that they can see, things that they know will benefit them personally or their kids.

“Schools don’t have a lot of free cash to speak of and I know how essential days out are for them, especially for rural kids.
“The locals were more than willing to put their hands in their pocket, even those who don’t have kids.”
The pub has invited the villagers, along with those from surrounding farms, to the premises for the last two years to raise money for local causes.

Ms Black added: “A big thank you to everybody that supported these events, it’s the whole spirit of village life and we need to support each other.
“I think in this day and age there are always cutbacks and people do feel the pinch [so] it’s nice that when it comes to helping out there is that charitable spirit.
“It’s nice that we’ve got that platform to be able to do that.
“It’s not just us, we just bring it to the table, without the local support it wouldn’t worth it.”
Members of the community donated £230 and the pub owners added £100 to the final total.
